Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that actually touch the road, so worn-out tires are more than just a cosmetic issue – they are a safety risk. Here are five practical signs that it is time to book a replacement.
1. Low tread depth
Most new tires start around 8–10/32" of tread. Once you are at 4/32", wet traction drops quickly, and by 2/32" your tires are legally worn out. If you do not have a tread gauge, a technician from Mobile Tire Centre can check them for you during a service call.
2. Uneven wear
More wear on the inside or outside edge, cupping, or bald spots can indicate alignment or suspension issues. Even if there is some tread left in places, uneven wear can seriously affect handling and braking.
3. Cracks, bulges, or damage
Sidewall cracks, bubbles, or exposed cords are all reasons to replace a tire immediately. These conditions can lead to a sudden failure at highway speeds.
4. Vibration while driving
Excessive vibration can come from many sources, but damaged or out-of-round tires are a common culprit. If you notice a new vibration, especially at specific speeds, it is worth having your tires inspected.
5. Tire age
Even if tread depth looks acceptable, rubber hardens over time. Many manufacturers recommend replacement around the 6–10 year mark depending on use and storage conditions.
